Tallinn port posts a 19.2% rise, 5.6 m tons of freight volumes in January-February

in January-February 2010 freight traffic through the Port of Tallinn (Estonia) totaled 5.620.8 tons against 4.713.6 tons in January-February last year, a 19.2% rise. Containers turnover in the reporting period dropped by 8.2%, to 21.319 TEUs, the Port Authority statement said.

In January-February, 2010 the liquid bulk cargo, 3.855.600 tons added to the overall transshipped volumes (+1.2 up from January-February 2009). In January-February this year 1025 ships entered the Port of Tallinn, a slight 5,6% drop in number of vessel calls.

Tallinn Port is the third largest port next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk in the Baltic Sea region. The port of Tallinn includes 5 port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. According to specified data, the throughput of Tallinn in 2009 was at 31 million 597 thousand tons.
