Officially the supervising agency was inspecting to ensure traffic safety, operation of rail transport, and maintenance of rolling stock in MCSP OJSC. "The results of inspection confirmed that all the requirements on safety and operation of railway transport are fulfilled by the MCSP. The Port Authority is taking all measures to ensure the safety of rolling stock. All the shortcomings noted by the Federal Agency’s report had been promptly eliminated by the MCSP, since July 2009, we’ve sent them monthly reports", the stevedoring company general director Victor Morozov said.
Murmansk Commercial Sea Port founded in 1994 was based on state-owned enterprise. The Company has been the fourth top leading port in volumes of handled commodities and is the second largest (next to St. Petersburg port) port of the North-West Russia. Murmansk Commercial Sea Port maintains and operates 17 berths of a total length of about 3.000 m. In 2009 the MCSP’s throughput reached 15 million 118,1 thousand tons of various cargoes, or about 5% higher than in 2008. Last year the Port handled 510 ships and 211.032 railway cars. These indicators showed in this crisis year, are the best results ever in the MCSP’s century history.
The Murmansk Port annually is continuing to cut the loading, off-loading operations for rail cars and to ensure the measures helping preserve the rolling stock. The company purchased new equipments for handling the cars, for maintaining and construction of railroad tracks, turnouts, the introduction together with Russian Railways automated systems to track cars, training of personnel, etc. Since 2005 the Port Authority has invested in such projects over 800 million rubles.
Since 2005, the port has built 4 new railway tracks, arranged 3 new facilities for off-loading rail cars, including the railroad viaduct, got 10 SENNEBOGEN wheeled cranes, 3 specialized Pauss forklifts to close the hatch gondola cars, 3 new gantry cranes with a precise positioning system over the rail car, etc.
In 2009, the company has invested 181.8 million rubles in the renovation program. The MCSP projected for this year to invest $394.7 million rubles to add two new gantry cranes, 5 bucket loaders, upgrading of 2 existing gantry cranes, process equipment for cleaning cars, repair of railway tracks, the MCSP’s general director said.
