Oktyabrskaya Railroad posts a 14.2 rise in cargo volumes, some 13.2m tons this Jan.-Feb

In January-February, 2010 Oktyabrskaya (October) Railroad (OZD, a subsidiary of RZD, Russian Railways) loaded more than 13.178.000 tons, 14.2% over the same period last year, the OZD press service said.

Of overall volumes handled by the Railroad there was a 54.5% spike in iron ore, a 41.5 percent rise in non-ferrous ore, a 28.6% increase in fertilizers and a 63.9 percent surge in ferrous metals. The reported a decline in volumes of oil cargo, by 8.8%, in construction goods, by 8.5%, in non-ferrous metals, by16.1%.

In the two first months this year, the Company loaded 3.210.800 tons of iron ore and 2.554.800 tons of oil cargo, 2.208.600 tons of building materials, 2.207.300 tons of fertilizer, 426.900 tons of non-ferrous ore and 688.000 tons of timber cargo, the OZD statistics show.

Oktyabrskaya Railroad’s operational length is 13.323,7 km. The Railroad passes through 11 Russian regions - Leningrad, Pskov, Novgorod, Vologda, Murmansk, Tver, Moscow, Yaroslavl, Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Republic of Karelia. Last year OZD had a 17.1% drop year-over-year, at 88.6 million tons.
