Ukraine Customs see a 1.6 times drop in customs duties volume

The amount of customs fees obtained for the declared containerized cargo in 2009 decreased as much as 1.6 times from the last year’s numbers, to 7.264 billion hryvnia (about $ 0.9 billion). The drop was due primarily to overall decline in cargo containers imports, RZD-Partner.ru reports citing the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

The SCS report show there was a 60.5% dip per unit, from 349.000 units to 138.000 units. Even increased, an average of 4.5% (from $6.488.000 to $6.777.000 per unit) payments, could not set off such a cutback.

According to the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine, last year containers shipments through commercial seaports of Ukraine decreased by 68%, while volumes of containerized imported cargoes fell by 76% from a year earlier, to 244.000 TEUs.
