Some volumes HFO and engine oil were released into the Don River from the ferry being repaired in the vicinity of the Novogrigorevskaya station in Ilovlinsky district of Volgograd region, RosPrirodNadzor press office reported citing the Southern Federal District department of the Russian supervisor of natural resources.
The oil spill has been registered by the Volgograd regional department of the environmental agency. The Department and Lab. Analysis and Survey Center team is conducting a survey in the contaminated area, to report the results later.
The ferry is operating in the vicinity of Novogrigorevskaya station transporting annually some 16.000 people.
