A Russian-flagged Kayakent fishing boat (shipowner Grant, home port of Makhachkala) got a breach and sank this early morning in the waters of the Caspian Sea after she collided with a sea drilling rig. The Caspian Basin Emergency Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan launched a rescue operation sending several ships to the scene, the press-service of the Russian Ministry of Transport said.
All of the boat’s crew, 15 people have been rescued, no injuries reported. The rescue agencies did not go into details about the incident, which is under investigation.
