2nd phase of Ust-Luga’s "South-2" facility to be launched by this summer

Construction of the second phase of multi-cargo complex "South-2" at the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region) is to be completed and launched in the summer of 2010, PortNews IAA reports citing Ust-Luga OJSC, the major project investor.

Last December Ust-Luga’s CEO Maxim Shirokov scheduled the South-2 handling facility to be put into operation in the 1st quarter 2010. However, severe winter intervened.

"South-2", multi-cargo handling complex is designed for transshipping Ro-ro cargoes, including - new imported autos, containers and general cargoes. The South-2 facility projected capacity will allow reception, storage and handling 4.6 million tons of cargoes a year. The design capacity of the automobiles Terminal is 450.000 new inbound cars a year. The first stage of the autos Terminal was intended for 100.000 imported automobiles. The second phase may add at least 13.000 cars. In 2012, the Ust-Luga company expects the full capacity output, at 4.6 million tons a year. The South-2 facility complex spreads on 97.8 hectares. The length of berthing piers is 1000 m. According to PortNews, in January-February the handling terminal transshipped some 7.000 tons.
