Qinzhou port container volume surges 69pc y-o-y to October

The port of Qinzhou in Guangxi province handled a total of 36,532 TEU between January and October this year, representing an increase of 69 per cent over the same period last year.According to Xinhua News Agency, the port's total cargo volume rose 48 per cent year on year to 6.11 million tons. Of this total, foreign freight accounted for 2.12 million tons, a surge of 120.4 per cent over 2005. The agency report attributed the substantial growth to improved co-operation between Qinzhou Port and the major mainland shipping line, COSCON, which has reportedly helped in reducing transshipment times. In addition, new berths were introduced at the port during the ten-month period.
