"Peter I" crew to circumnavigate the Arctic Ocean in a single season for the first time without the assistance of icebreakers

The crew of the yacht "Peter I" planned for the first time in history without the help of icebreakers to circumnavigate the Arctic Ocean in a single season. This is stated in the report of GC Transas (Saint Petersburg), which co-sponsored this voyage, providing the crew an electronic mapping system. 

Cruising Yacht "Peter I" - one of the largest sailing yachts in St. Petersburg. The length of the steel hull – 18.5 m, width – 4.6 m, displacement tonnage - 30 tons. Area of the main sail yachts - 160 sqm. m, additional - 200 square m. "Peter I" can navigate 1.700 miles without refueling. Electronic mapping system made by Transas will allow the crew of the yacht to ensure safe navigation in high latitudes.

The expedition will start from the port of St. Petersburg on June 1, 2010. Navigation route passes through the Arctic Russia and foreign ports: Murmansk, Dixon, Pevek, Providence, Barrow, Tuktoyaktuk, Cambridge Bay, Fort Ross, Clyde, Godthab, Reykjavik. The finish is scheduled in November 2010 in the port of St. Petersburg.
