The tests showed that the carriage of grain cargoes in the universal and specialized containers may ensure traffic safety, as well as containers and cargo. The tests were conducted at the Moscow-Tovarnaya station of Oktyabrskaya Railroad.
According to the United Grain Company OJSC, in 2008-2009 the volume of grain exports from Russia totaled 20.8 million tons of grain. By 2019 the exports will increase to 27.5 million tons.
The current concept of grain transportation, developed when Russia largely imported grain, narrows export possibilities and reduces the competitiveness of Russian products on world markets. The existing port facilities do not allow increased export flows of cereals and their products. The use of universal and specialized containers for the transportation of grain cargoes will significantly cut costs and improve competitiveness of the entire export supply chain.
