Freight volumes by PZD up 6.6%, to 5.4 m tons in Jan-Feb, 2010

In the two first months of this year Volga Railroad (PrivZD) loaded 5.4 million tons of cargo, 6.6% up from the same period last year, PZD’s press service said.

Volga Railroad has had a 3.3 gain in volumes of oil and oil products, in ferrous metals, by 24.6%, in volumes of chemicals and soda, as much as 164.4%, in chemical and mineral fertilizers, by 58.3%, and a twofold rise in volume of loaded ferrous metals.

Modernization of Balakovsk Fertilizers plant contributed to the growth in fertilizers volumes handled by the Volga Railroad company.

Increased volumes of ferrous metals were due to growth in shipment of large diameter pipes for Eastern Siberia - Pacific Ocean pipeline, BTS-2 and Sakhalin – Khabarovsk pipelines.

Recovery in demands by steel plants of the Volgograd region, Gazprom Mining Astrakhan and upgrading of Saratov Refinery have caused the growth in volumes of scrap metals, oil and petroleum products.
