Ships with nuclear power plants to call at Vitino Port

The Russian Government in its March 25 (N 417-p) Order included the seaport of Vitino in the list of Russia’s seaports open for ships and other vessels with nuclear power plants and radioactive sources. The list was approved by the Decree of the Russian Federation Govt. on January 6, 1997 (N 14-p), RosMorPort’s Arkhangelsk branch statement said.

Seaport of Vitino, located in the Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea, specializes in storage and handling heavy fuel oil (from May through October), gas condensate (stabilized) and gasoline. Vitino is the only port on the White Sea, transshipping crude oil. The port's capacity is 11 million tons a year. Specialized seaport of Vitino is the only stevedore operating at the port. In 2009 the Vitino Port cargo turnover totaled 4 million 358.7 thousand tons.
