"Dry port" project to be implemented at the Baltic Customs

North-West Customs Directorate (NWCD) issued an order on the implementation of the "dry port" project based at the Baltic Customs, NWCD statement said.

The measure was due to the increased volumes passing via seaports checkpoints, ceased operations of Piskarevskiy and Vyborg customs posts. There have been reportedly delays in customs clearance procedure.
 
Customs clearance of cargoes is carried out at the customs and logistics terminals (CLT) near the border. At the Russo-Finland direction Torfyanovsky post of Vyborg customs operates. At the Russian-Latvian direction - Ovinkovsky post of Sebezh customs. The NWCD officials say there will be nine more CLT stations open soon near the border. Currently all customs posts operate of Pskov, Kingiseppsky, and Novgorod customs.

The Customs Directorate plans to open a new specialized Automotive customs post, for customs clearance of spare parts for car makers, Nissan, Hyundai, Toyota, General Motors, located in St. Petersburg.

The "dry port" project implies customs clearance off the terminals of the Big Port of St. Petersburg. The main task of so-called "dry ports" is to relieve seaports, taking some services, such as handling containers.
