The ship was designed at Almaz Central Maritime Design Bureau (St. Petersburg). The ship is intended for actions in the near-sea zone and to combat ships and submarines, as well as artillery support of marines during landing operations.
The construction began in May 2003. The two other ships, Boiky (Courageous) and Stoiky (Steadfast) have being built since July 2005 and November 2006 accordingly.
The ship’s displacement is of 2.000 tons, length - 100 m, width - 13 m. It can sail autonomously 4.000 n. miles, the crew (including a helicopter service group) – 100 members. Corvette can be armed with a a 100-mm artillery system (Petersburg Machine Building Plant Arsenal) anti-missile gun system Kashtan, supersonic missiles capable of striking low-flying targets at a distance of 10 km, as well as two automatic gun systems AK-630. Noteworthy, LO, or stealth technology has been used during the ship construction.
Severnaya Verf (Northern Shipyard) Shipbuilding Plant is one of the leading enterprises of the Russian defense industry. Severnaya Velf has been part of United Industrial Corporation (Moscow) since 2004. The plant builds primarily surface warships and multi-purposes merchant ships.
