Luka Koper sings deal with world's 13th largest port

Representatives of Slovenia's Luka Koper and Malaysia's Port Klang have signed a sister port agreement, giving the sole Slovenian seaport a chance to strengthen cooperation with the world's 13th largest port.

The agreement, signed in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, 13 November is aimed at improving the status of the two ports as gateways for Southeast Asia's market of 500 people and Central Europe's 400 million market, Luka Koper wrote in a press release on Tuesday, 14 November.

Malaysian Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choi said upon signing the agreement that the two ports have a favourable shipping time of 17 days, and they share competitive shipment prices.

The minister believes that shipments between them will rise rapidly and reach 100,000 containers a year in 2010.

The agreement, signed on behalf of Luka Koper by vice chairman Aldo Babic, also envisages cooperation in education, exchange of information and transport data.
