Six-month throughput of Ilyichevsk down 6.2%, to 7,76m tons

Freight flows via Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Illyichevsk) (SCPI, Odessa region, Ukraine) in the first half of this year dropped, as compared with January-June in 2009, by 6.2%, to 7,762,000 tons.
 
In June this year, transshipment volume reached 975,000 tons, down from June 2009 to 13.5%, the Port’s statement said.

However, this June general cargo volume rose by 13.9%, while bulked cargo slumped 42.8%, liquid cargo – by 13.1% from last year’s June.  

This June the stevedoring company has seen the month high in several categories of cargo: automotive equipment showed a sixfold surge, pig iron jumped 184.5%, meal increased by 76.9%, ferry service traffic gained 13.6%, container counts were 9.1% in tons and 29.2% in TEUs (25,600 TEUs.

State-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Illyichevsk) is among the four largest Ukrainian ports. The company’s handling facilities allow handling over 30 million tons of freight a year. The port operates the 6-km-long quay wall with 29 berths. Port of Illyichevsk also has three railway entrance and three crossing points for road transport. In 2009 cargo turnover at the port shrank by 13.8% year-on-year, to 16.286 million tons.
