Container trade of Port of Hamburg up 4.3% in H1, to 3,7m TEUs

Container traffic at the Port of Hamburg (Germany) rose by 4.3% in the first half of the year, to 3.7 million TEUs, PortNews IAA reports citing the Port Authority statement.

During the period, container volume on Asia line (the main trading partner of Hamburg) has increased by 6.9%, to 2.2 million TEUs, on Rotterdam service – by 18%, Antwerp - 16%.

Port of Hamburg is located at the mouth of the River Elbe, 100 km off seashore. However, the port facilities allow handling 250.000 DWT bulk cargo carriers. Total throughput of the port of Hamburg in 2009 dropped by 21.4 percent, to 110.4 million tons, container traffic was down by 28%, to 7.01 million TEUs.
