Sovcomflot plans a Suezmax tanker voyage via the NSR, next year

Sovcomflot intends to send a Suezmax class vessel via the Northern Sea Route in 2011, the shipping company said, the PortNews’ correspondent reports from the port of Pevek, where the Sovcomflot’s SCF Baltica is expected to arrive today.

The Suezmax tanker will have Ice Class, not lower than 1A Super, which will allow the tanker to sail through the 1-meter-thick ice fields, up to 10 points.

Earlier reports said the SCF Baltica had been en route from the port of Murmansk to the port of Ningbo (China) carrying 70,000 tons of gas condensate. The cargo owner – Novatek JSC. The tanker is expected to arrive at the port of Pevek (Chukotka, Russia) ahead of schedule, indicating the high potential opportunities for transit of goods through the Northern Sea Route.
