The opening ceremony of a TransContainer’s subsidiary in South Korea, TransContainer Asia Pacific Ltd., was held in Seoul, the company’s press service said. TransContainer Asia Pacific Ltd. will offer integrated logistics solutions for the delivery of containerized cargo from the Republic of Korea to Russia's regions and countries of Eastern and Western Europe.
"The Russian market is of great interest in terms of business development of South Korean companies, whose capital investments in the Russian economy have reached billions of dollars. Strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in various spheres of economy, implementation of large joint projects are impossible without a stable and affordable transportation," TransContainer CEO Peter Baskakov said at the opening ceremony.
He also recalled that the existing traditional schemes of delivery of goods from the Republic of Korea in the central regions of Russia are associated with significant time and financial costs. To deliver goods from Korea to the European ports cargo owners use largely sea transport, and trucks to carry cargo to the consignees in Russia.
"Creating TransContainer Asia Pacific Ltd will give new impetus to the development of shipping lane for the delivery of containerized cargo from the ports of the Republic of Korea to Far Eastern port of Russia. Then - by rail inland Russia. Time delivery is reduced by 20-25 days compared to traditional shipping route. In addition, there is no need to attract international carriers. Our route is attractive for cargo owners and also in financial terms", said Peter Baskakov.
TransContainer, a subsidiary of the state-owned Russian Railways (RZD), was formed on March 4, 2006 on the basis of a RZD’s arm –Center for Cargo Container Traffic. TransContainer Company is a leading rail container operator in Russia, providing a broad range of services for container shipments and logistics services. As of now the company operates the largest cars fleet, in Russia, CIS and Baltic countries, over 24.000 flatcars, some 60.000 containers of various sizes, as well as more than 840 units of trucks, tractor-trailers, etc.
