RZD posts a 11-percent gain in rail traffic, to 793m tons in Jan.-Aug., 2010

Freight volume loaded and carried by Russian Railways JSC (RZD) in January-August rose by 11% from the same period in 2009, to 793 million tons, the RZD press service said.
According to the company’s operational data, from January to August 2010 the Railroad has transported over 189 million tons of coal, 8.4 million tons of coke, more than 167 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products, 67 million tons of iron and manganese ore, 47.8 million tons of ferrous metals, 30 million tons of chemical and mineral fertilizers, 11.6 million tons of grain and grinded products, 92 million tons of construction materials, about 16.9 million tons of ferrous and sulfur feedstock, 19.2 million tons of chemicals and soda, 23.8 million tons of industrial raw materials and molding materials, and 11.7 million tons of containerized cargo.
 
In August, the company hauled 105 million tons of freight, 5.3% up from Aug., 2009. The month volume increase includes a 11-percent gain in crude oil and petroleum products, a 10-pct growth in ferrous metals, a 12-pct rise of ferrous metals scrap, a 10.6-pct increase in chemical and mineral fertilizers, a 11.5-pct growth in transportation of cement. Timber cargo increased by 9.7%, construction materials rose by 11.3%, chemicals and soda - by 10.8%, grain and grinded products - by 6.8%.
 
The Railroad’s cargo turnover in August totaled 172 billion of tariff ton/km (+1% from last year’s August).
 
Eight-month turnover on the RZD’s network amounted to 1.321 trillion of tariff ton/km, which is 11% higher than in Jan-Aug, 2009.
