MSC to riset rates from North America

Mediterranean Shipping Co. said it will increase freight rates on its services between North America and Europe and the Mediterranean as of Oct. 1. The Geneva-based carrier, the second largest container shipping line, said in a notice to customers that the general rate increases are necessary “to preserve the existing comprehensive range of services,” and “to advance freight rates towards a sustainable level.”
The trade lanes and the posted rate increases (in U.S. dollars) are as follows:
-- From Canada to Northern Europe and the UK, rates will increase by $200 per 20-foot equivalent container unit and $300 per 40-foot equivalent unit;
-- From Canada to Scandinavia and the Baltic region rates will increase by $300 per TEU and $400 per FEU;
-- From Canada to the Western Mediterranean rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU;
-- From the U.S. to Northern Europe and the UK rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU;
-- From the U.S. to Scandinavia and the Baltic region rates will increase by $300 per TEU and $400 per FEU;
-- From the U.S. to the Western Mediterranean rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU;
-- From Mexico to Northern Europe and the UK rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU;
-- From Mexico to Scandinavia and the Baltic region rates will increase by $300 per TEU and $400 per FEU;
-- From Mexico to the Western Mediterranean rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU.
