Container throughput of the Port District of New York-New Jersey (USA) in January-July 2010 increased by 13,9% compared with the same period last year, to 2,334,000 TEUs, the Port Authority of New York&New Jersey press release said. NYNJ Port's container terminals handled 876,100 TEUs (+11.1%) of exported containers and 1,26 million TEUs (+15.6%) of imports.
Port District of New York-New Jersey is ranked the third U.S. port by freight turnover and the largest port on the East Coast of the country. The Port of New York and New Jersey is the leading North American port for automobile imports and exports.
Last year’s container throughput totaled 3,638,107 TEUs, PANYNJ statistics said.
