OCSP’s throughput down 9.6% in Jan.-Aug., to 16.66m tons

Freight turnover of SE Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP, Ukraine) fell 9.6% from the same period a year earlier, to 16,662.200 tons, the OCSP’s press release said.

The eight-month handled volume includes 9,017,800 tons of dry cargo (a 16.2pct drop from Jan-Aug, 2009) and 7,644.400 tons of liquid bulk cargo (-0.28%).

In the reporting period, transshipment of containerized cargo at the port increased by 848,100 tons (+150.9%), to 2,514.100 tons, from 157,573 TEUs to 218,874 TEUs.

State-owned Odessa Commercial Sea Port is one of the largest ports of the Black Sea-Azov Basin. The OCSP’s facilities allow the stevedoring company to handle annually over 14 million tons of dry cargo and 14 million tons of liquid bulk cargo. Last year, OCSP’s throughput shrank by 19% year-over-year, to 28.007 million tons.
