Eight-month throughput of NCSP is down 1.7% to 57,13m tons

Freight traffic volume passing via The Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port Group (LSE: NCSP, RTS and MICEX: NMTP) dropped 1.7% from the same period a year earlier, to 57,132,100 tons, the NCSP Group’s press release said..

According to the Group’s statistics there was a slight 3.5-percent decline in liquid bulk cargo from Jan-Aug. 2009, to 37,761,800 tons, including some 28,6 m tons of crude oil (-3.5%), 8,686 m tons of petroleum products (-2.6%), 3,2 m tons of UAN (-4.6%) and 113,800 tons of seed oils.

Eight-month volume of iron ore amounted to 977,300 tons, a 54.5-percent slump from the same period last year. However, in H2, 2010 the cargo volume was gradually recovering thanks to the newly signed contracts, reaching in August the planned monthly level of 300,000 tons.

Transhipment of grain in January-August shrank by 140,800 tons, 2.4% down from 2009’s figure, to 5,736,800 tons. In August 2010, before the grain exports ban became effective, the NCSP Group enterprises had transshipped 528,400 tons, including 328,600 tons handled at Novorossiysk Grain Terminal (NGT).

Currently, PJSC NGT is carrying out maintenance and service works at the terminal and has been in talks with major grain traders to attract transit grain flows from Kazakhstan and other regions.

Transshipment of general cargo during the reporting period in comparison with January-August 2009 gained 1.7% to 7,554,400 tons. Eight-month volume of timber cargo rose 30.4% (787.600 t), non-ferrous metals - by 19.6% to 716.500 tons. The volume of perishable goods soared 82% from Jan-Aug.,2009, to 165.100 tons.

Container throughput at all terminals of the Group in Jan-Aug, demonstrated a 82.4-percent surge from the same period a year earlier, to 284,300 TEUs.

Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port is ranked the largest Russian stevedoring company by annual handled freight volume. Last year’s throughput of the NCSP Group totaled 86.5 million tons. In 2009, consolidated revenue to IFRS made up $675.1 million, net income - $252.2 million.

NCSP Group incorporates several companies: PJSC NCSP, PJSC Novorossiysk Grain Terminal, OJSC Novorossiysk Shipyard, PJSC NCSP Fleet, OJSC Novoroslesexport, OJSC IPP, and Baltic Stevedoring Company Ltd.
