China ports’ throughput is up 16.6% in Jan-Aug, to 5.25bn tons

Freight flows passing through the ports in China in January-August 2010 reached 5,259 billion tons, a 16.6-percent gain compared with the same period of 2009, the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China said.
 
The eight-month volume includes cargo turnover of the seaports that increased by 15.6% to 3.59 billion tons and throughput of river ports grown by 18.9%, to 1,66 billion tons.

Container trade of Chinese ports during the period rose 21.6% to 94,74 million TEUs: seaports - by 21.6% (85.39 million TEUs), and river ports - by 21.5%, to 9, 34 million TEUs.
 
Last year, the total cargo turnover of the ports of China amounted to about 7 billion tons.
