Somali pirates hijack the Salma ship offshore of Cameroon

Somali pirates seized the ship Salma with crew members of mixed nationals on board. The pirates’ attack occurred off the coast of Cameroon back on September 12, but the incident was reported only four days later.

The pirates attacked simultaneously three ships docked at the port of Douala. The gunmen boarded a cargo ship and took away the captain, his mate, boatswain, and cook. There were reportedly 10 crew members onboard - among them a Russian citizen, the rest – Ukraine nationals. The ship owner said the pirates had already got in contact with him. They assured that the hostages are alive and well, and the pirates are now contemplating their demands.

As PortNews has earlier reported, among the hostages were two sailors from the Belgian Jan De Nul dredger, and the citizens of Croatia and the Philippines.
