Russia-China transportation of RZD grew by 8% in January-October 2006

Russia-China transportation of RZD grew by 8%, or by 2.7 million tons, in January-October 2006 (year-on-year) to 38.5 million tons, RZD press center reports according to RBC. Export totaled 36 million tons (+2.5 million tons or +7%), import - 2.3 million tons (+497 thou tons, or 28%), transit - 186 thou tons (-59%). Export share is 94%, import - 5.5%, transit - 0.5%. Major share of cargo - 74% - falls on border crossings and 26% - on port stations of Russia, CIS and Baltic states.

In the 10-month period transportation via border crossings grew by 14%, or by 3.4 million tons, amounting to 28.4 million tons, including export - 26.6 million tons (+14% or 3.3 million tons), import - 1.7 million tons (+22%, or 307 thou tons), transit - 88 thou tons. Crude oil delivery to China amounted over the same period to 8.5 million tons, which is 31% more than in the similar period of the previous year (+2.95 million tons), including 1.3 million tons via Naushki and 7.2 million tons via Zabaikalsk.

Cooperation between Russian and Chinese railways is regulated by the agreement between Russian Railways OJSC and Railway Ministry of China on cooperation in cargo and passenger railway transportation signed in November 2004. Foreign trade transportation by railway transport is carried out via Zabaikalsk-Manchzhuria, Grodekovo - Suifenhe, Naushki - Suhe-Bator (by transit via Mongolia), Dostyk – Alashankou (by transit via Kazakhstan), as well as via port stations of Russia, Ukraine and Baltic states.
