In January, China saw its cargo throughput for foreign trade reach 237 million tons, 13.5% more than the corresponding period of last year.
The increase in China's cargo throughput was mainly due to the strong demand of commodities. The country's imports of iron ore, crude oil and finished oil showed a growth of 47.9%, 27% and 51%, respectively.
In January, the country's cargo throughput of major ports reached 13.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units or TEUs, up 17.6% year on year, and that of Shanghai Port, Shenzhen Port, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and Tianjin Port represented a year-on-year increase of 20.4%, 18.5%, 34.6% and 21.5%, respectively.
