Chinese shipyard starts building 10th cargo ship for VBTH

Keel-laying of a dry cargo ship ordered by VBTH was held on Feb. 28 at Shipyard Qingdao Hyundai Shipbuilding Co. The newbuilding is the tenth multipurpose dry cargo vessel of project DCV36, Marine Engineering Bureau press office said.

The DCV36 project vessels are designed for marine transportation of general and bulk cargo, 20- and 40-foot containers, ISO 9.5ft (including reefer containers), metal, grain, timber, coal, heavy-lift and oversized cargoes, dangerous goods (Class 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 and Annex B, Code BC). The ship will be built to Ice3 Class for operations on the Baltic and White Seas during winter navigation.

The lead ship of the series, “Amethyst" was laid down on 16 November 2009. Now, the newbuilds include 10 vessels, 5 of them have been launched.

The majority stockholder of VBTH is Universal Cargo Logistics Holding. Dutch-registered Universal Cargo Logistics Holding (UCL Holding) is an international transportation holding comprising stevedoring companies of Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg and Universal Handling Complex in the North-West Russia; Tuapse and Taganrog ports in the South of the country; Volga Shipping, North-West Shipping and Western Shipping companies; as well as a number of shipbuilding, shipping and logistics assets.
