Klaipeda Port’s throughput grows 26% to 6,1m tons

Freight volume handled by the port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) in January-February 2011 amounted to 6 million 96 thousand tons, up 26.6% over the same period last year, the statistical data of the Ministry of Transport and Klaipeda Port Authority said..

In February, the port handle nearly 2.92 million tons of cargo, a 25.4-percent growth as compared with the same period of 2010.
Container throughput also increased by 23.8% to 23,800 TEUs, Ro-Ro cargo volume rose by 32.6% to 18,947 units.

State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. In 2010, Klaipeda port’s cargo volume rose by 10.9% to 31,270 m tons.
