Throughput handled by the port operator globally in 2010 grew to a record 65.12m teus, PSA announced Friday. The record results were attributed to volumes from newly commissioned terminals in South Korea's Busan port, India's Chennai port and Vietnam's Vung Tau port, according to Eddie Teh, group ceo of PSA.
The PSA flagship in Singapore handled 27.68m teus and took a 10.1% growth in Singapore, making the port the second largest container port in the world, behind China's Shanghai port. The port operator achieved a net profit of S$1.18bn ($931m) for 2010, up from S$976m in 2009, while revenue also climbed 6.3% to S$4.08bn.
Fock Siew Wah, group chairman of PSA, expressed caution about performance this year due to “lingering economic problems in the developed countries and the unfolding of a slowdown in China.”
