MSC rises Trans-Atlantic rates

Mediterranean Shipping Co. notified its customers that it is increasing freight rates on eastbound trans-Atlantic cargo as of April 1.

The Geneva-based carrier said the general rate increase applies to all tariff and contract cargo moving from North America to Europe.

Other carriers including Hanjin Shipping and NYK Line have also announced April 1 rate increases on the trans-Atlantic.

MSC's increases are as follows:
From the U.S. to the Western Mediterranean: $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
From the U.S. to Northern Europe and the UK: $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
From the U.S. to Scandinavia and the Baltic countries: $320 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container.
From Mexico to the Western Mediterranean: $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
From Mexico to Northern Europe and the UK: $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
From Mexico to Scandinavia and the Baltic countries: $320 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container.
From Canada to the Western Mediterranean: $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
From Canada to Northern Europe and the Baltic counties: $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
From Canada to Scandinavia and the Baltic countries: $320 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container.
