FCT’s boxes volume up 8.3% to 169,136 TEUs in Jan-Feb, 2011

Container throughput of the First Container Terminal (FCT, part of the National Container Company, NCC) in January-February 2011 rose by 8.3% from the same period a year earlier, to 169,136 TEUs, the NCC press service said.

In February, FCT handled 84,495 TEUs (+5,9%), including 40,444 TEUs of exports, 44,051 TEUs of imports and 11,637 TEUs of reefer containers. In February, the terminal handled 48 container ships, the average turnover per vessel was 1,760 TEUs.

In February, container throughput of Shushary-based Logistics Terminal CJSC (St. Petersburg) amounted to 4,690 TEUs (2,492 units).

First Container Terminal was commissioned in December 1973 in Leningrad Seaport. FCT is connected through regular feeder services to major European ports - Rotterdam, Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Antwerp. In 2010, container trade of FCT increased by 23.5% to 1,159 million TEUs

National Container Company (NCC) is the largest and leading container operator in Russia. NCC is owned 50/50 by First Quantum Group and FESCO Transport Group. Last year, total container trade across NCC’s stevedoring assets amounted to some 1.3m TEUs.

NCC’s portfolio of assets includes First Container Terminal (FCT, St. Petersburg), NUTEP Container Terminal (Novorossiysk), Ukrtranscontainer (Ilyichevsk, Odessa region, Ukraine), Ust-Luga Container Terminal (Leningrad region), Logistika Terminal (Shushary St. Petersburg) and Wilhelmshaven-based JadeWeserPort (Germany).
