Freight flows passing via the port of Kotka (Finland) totaled in January-February 2011 1,494,678 tons, up 16% from a year earlier, the Port Authority reported.
Two-month container volume increased by 14.8% to 70,787 TEUs. Transshipment of Ro-Ro cargoes declined by 19% to 2,172 units.
Exports volume increased by 8.2% to 771,759 tons, imports soared by 48.6% to 391,555 tons. In February Port of Kotka handled 365,932 tons of cargo.
Port of Kotka is one of the major export ports of Finland, which is part of a logistics hub, enabling Finland-Russia trade flows. The bulk of freight volume handled at the port is timber and products of a local pulp and paper mill. In 2010, cargo throughput of the port of Kotka increased by 50.5% year-over-year to 11,3 million tons.
