Cargo volume handled by the ports of Finland in January 2011 increased by 10.2% compared with the same period a year earlier, to 7,187,800 tons, the Association of Finnish ports reports.
Handling of imports at the country’s seaports during the reporting period rose by 14.2% to 3,975,870 tons, of exports - by 5.5% to 3,211,970 tons, the Association said.
In January 2011, the port of Sköldvik handled the largest volume of cargo – 1,377,700 tons, 10.7% down from the last year’s figures.
Monthly cargo throughput of the port of Kotka increased by 24.2% to 785,810 tons, freight turnover of the port of Helsinki in January rose by 8.3% to 874,590 tons. The port of Hamina demonstrated a 17-percent growth to 306,500 tons. Port of Oulu’s throughput totaled 243,800 tons, up 6.4% from January 2010.
In 2010, aggregated cargo volume handled at Finland ports amounted to 88,2 million tons, a year-over-year 12.1 percent increase.
