DB Vympel to design salvage ship for the Russian Navy

OJSC Design Bureau “Vympel" (Nizhny Novgorod region) will design a rescue and salvage ship for the Russian Navy under a contract with Zvezdochka shipbuilding firm (an Astrakhan Shipyard’s branch), the DB press release said.

The project 22870 ship is intended for towing and refloat of ships, for fire fighting on emergency vehicles (boats) and shore facilities, evacuation and medical treatment of rescued people; electricity supply to emergency vessels, etc. The salvage ship will be operating in the Caspian Sea.

The main characteristics: ship class - KM Arc4 [1] AUT2 FF3WS DYNPOS-1 EPP SDS <60 Tug Salvage ship of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, LOA - 57 m, breadth overall - 14 m, depth amidships - 5,4 m ; draft - 3,2 m, speed - about 14 kn.

Nizhny Novgorod-based Design Bureau "Vympel" was founded in 1927 on the basis of the Leningrad branch of the Central Bureau of Maritime shipbuilding. Today, the "Vympel" is a leading firm specializing in the design of civil multipurpose vessels of different class and auxiliary ships for the Navy.
