NYK is rapidly redeploying a module carrier, Yamatai, to help rescue efforts in earthquake-struck northern Japan, Seatrade-asia reports.
The ship, which is normally employed moving plant equipment, can be used as an offshore platform for helicopters to be used to provide relief supplies to the area.
Yamatai, operated by NYK-Hinode Line Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK Line, has left Masan, Korea and should arrive off Sanriku around March 20.
