Port of Hong Kong’s boxes volume rises 2.2% to 3,6m TEUs

Container throughput of the port of Hong Kong (China) in January-February increased by 2.2% from the same period of 2010, to 3,6 million TEUs, the Port Authority statistics said. In February, container traffic shrank by 2.4% to 1,49 million TEUs.

Container volume handled at the largest terminal Kwai Chung in Jan-Feb, 2011 increased by 2.3% to 2,6 million TEUs.

Port of Hong Kong is one of the largest ports in the world. In 2009, Hong Kong port's container volume dropped year-over-year by 14.6% to 20,9 million TEUs. Last year, the port’s container trade totaled 23,69m TEUs. The port is able to handle 456,000 ships a year.
