Cargotec has secured orders worth more than EUR 20 million for MacGregor cranes and hatch covers

Cargotec has confirmed new orders worth more than EUR 20 million to deliver fully electric driven MacGregor cargo handling cranes, together with hatch cover design and key components, Cargotec  reports .
The equipment will be delivered for eight general cargo vessels to be built at Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., China for the China Navigation Company Pte Ltd (“CNCo”). The ships will be delivered in 2013. The order includes an option for equipment for a further eight ships.
Each of the 31,000 dwt general cargo vessels will be equipped with four fully electrically driven cargo handling cranes with a SWL of 60 tonnes for hook operation and a SWL of 37 tonnes for grab operation.  The hatch cover system is based on special customer requirements and comprises of a combination of hatch covers maximising the ship’s cargo space and thus demonstrates Cargotec’s cargo system design expertise.
“These vessels will be deployed to enhance or replace existing vessels deployed in our own liner trades”, said Richard Kendall, Managing Director of CNCo. “We have particularly focused on designing a vessel that is capable of appropriate cargo handling and speed performance to operate successfully in a scheduled liner trade, while delivering ground?breaking fuel efficiency at normal operating speeds”, he added. The newly?ordered vessels are rated to carry 2082 TEU (147 refrigerated), but are also designed to carry
general cargo, steel, project cargo, agricultural products and dry bulk cargoes.
“The crane and hatch cover outfits are an integral part of the cargo access and handling ability of the vessels, and the MacGregor cargo handling solution offers an efficient and reliable system for the shipowner,” says Per-Erik Nilsson, Cargotec sales and marketing director. “Furthermore, our fully electrically driven cranes are environmentally friendly”.
CNCo currently operates 29 vessels, of which 17 are owned, in its owned and managed liner trades in the Asia Pacific region under the Swire Shipping, Tasman Orient, New Guinea Pacific Line and Greater Bali Hai brands.
