NYK Line, which is No. 10 on the JOC list of Top 15 Container Fleet Operators, said it will provide transportation to the affected area for free from loading at container yards at international ports to unloading at container yards at domestic ports called by NYK vessels. Transportation will be in dry containers via container vessels.
Both the shipper and recipient should be public organizations, such as national and local governments. Other recipients can be those that meet the requirements of the NYK Group-JPF Joint Aid Supplies Transportation Project. NGOs and private entities should make inquiries.
The contact address of the shipper and consignee must be clearly marked on packaged items, along with descriptions of items and quantities to be transported. Domestic and international loading and unloading ports must be those called by NYK vessels. Customs procedures and land transportation from points of departure and arrival should be arranged by the shipper and consignee. Items are limited to relief aid supplies to the affected area. Hazardous materials, animals, and restricted matter are excluded items.
Transportation depends on space available, and conditions apply to relief materials arriving at a loading container terminal by the end of May 2011. The NYK Group may extend the duration of this term if conditions warrant.
NYK, with headquarters in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has since 2004 been implementing an international aid project together with the Japan Platform, an international emergency humanitarian aid organization made up of a consortium of 32 Japanese NGOs, the business community, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
