The gross output of China's shipbuilding industry was RMB 99.7 billion in the first two months of this year, up 22.1% compared with the same period of last year, according to statistics released by the China Shipbuilding Industry Association, China Knowledge reports.
During the period from January to February, China's shipbuilders had completed a total of 8.46 million dead weight tons of shipbuilding orders, decreasing 7.8% year on year, and received 8.26 million DWT of new shipbuilding orders, increasing 44.3% year on year.
As of the end of last month, China's shipbuilding industry saw a total 194.66 million DWT of orders in hand, up 4.1% year on year.
China Shipbuilding Industry Association said in a statement that a rising labor cost and raw materials will squeeze China's shipbuilders' profit.
