ClassNK chairman and president Noboru Ueda has set three major goals for his term as the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) council chairman, he unveiled this week. Ueda looks forward to IACS contributing positively to the IMO on technical matters, reflecting the needs of the global maritime industry and restating its commitment to the European Commission. “My goals have been to address the technical challenges faced by the IMO and others, and to ensure the development and implementation of IACS' technical regulations while taking into account of the needs and opinion of the maritime industry,” he said. He added that IACS has established a new expert group to provide the IMO with advice on energy efficiency design index (EEDI) calculation and certification methods, as well as safety concerns about EEDI implementation.
