Maersk Line launches container service to Moby Dik terminal

Marine line carrier Maersk Line has launched container line to the terminal of Moby Dik (part of Global Ports Group), the stevedore company’s press service reported. In accordance with the agreement concluded between Maersk Line and the terminal operator in March 2011, the shipping company’s vessels will call at the terminal once a week.

The service’s first containership laden with auto parts docked at the terminal on March 24th. The 868-TEU Mistral is en route from Bremerhaven (Germany) to Rauma (Finland). The stevedore unloaded 641 TEUs and loaded 468 TEUs.

Moby Dik Ltd. has become the third container terminal of Global Ports, after Petrolesport (Port of St. Petersburg) and VSC (Port of Vostochny), included in Maersk Line’s service schedule, the report says.

Kronstadt-based Moby Dik Ltd is a container terminal owned jointly by Global Ports and Container Finance Group (Finland). The terminal was commissioned in 2002. The terminal 3rd phase was completed last year. The terminal is located in close proximity to St. Petersburg and is linked to the city ring road.

Currently, the Finnish company Containerships ensures major freight flows at the terminal. In March 2011 Unifeeder launched weekly calls at the terminal. The terminal’s annual capacity is up to 400,000 TEUs.

Maersk Line is the world's largest container carrier. The Maersk Line fleet comprises more than 500 vessels and a number of containers corresponding to over 1,900,000 TEUs.
