First ships transit Volgograd lock ahead of schedule

Transits of vessels through the Volgograd canal locks started on March 28th, 4 days ahead of schedule set by the Program of navigable canals operations, the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport said.

On Monday, the Volga Shipping Company’s two pusher tugs passed successfully through the Lock Number 31st of Volgograd canal.

JSC Volga Shipping Company founded in 1843 is one of the oldest and largest shipping companies in Russia. The company specializes in transportation of cargo and passengers on inland waterways of the country. The company operates a fleet of 250 cargo and passenger vessels. Volga Shipping Company is part of VBTH, which is majority owned by the Universal Cargo Logistics Holding managing a number of Russian shipping, stevedoring and shipbuilding assets.
