Admiralty Shipyards has launched a research vessel Akademik Treshnikov. According to acting General Director of the company Mikhail Alexandrov, the ship has a reinforced ice-class hull, modern laboratories and other improvements.
The R/V Akademik Treshnikov is scheduled for delivery in September 2011. The ship was ordered by the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. The research vessel is intended for support of the Russian Antarctic Expedition. The vessel dimensions: LOA - 133.6 m, DWT - 5580 tons, speed (in ice thickness 1,1 m) - 2 knots, endurance – 15,000 nm. The vessel can accommodate 2 helicopters.
JSC Admiralty Shipyards is the oldest Russian shipbuilder, founded back in 1704. The company is part of Western Center of Shipbuilding owned by United Shipbuilding Corporation. Admiralty Shipyards specializes in the design, construction and upgrade of civil vessels as well as warships for the Russian Navy. To date, the company has built more than 300 submarines (including 41 with nuclear-powered engines), 68 deep and underwater vessels.
