Latvian ports are expected to handle 100 million tonnes of cargo in 2013, Andris Maldups, Director of Transit Policy Department of the Ministry of Communications, is quoted by Interfax as saying this when telling about the program on Latvian ports’ development, Gudok informs. As early as in 2013 the ports are to handle 1.9 mln t containers and service 600,000 passengers.
There are three large and seven minor ports in Latvia. In 2007 they handled 62.434 million tonnes of cargo (+4.9%, year-on-year).
Latvian Port Council comprises representatives of the government, ports and transport associations. Its target is to coordinate activities aimed at improvement of transit flow via the ports as well as the ports’ development.
