Icebreakers and tankers to be built for Russia in Germany

Shipyards in North Germany (Warnemünde and Wismar) plan to start building of icebreakers and tankers for Russia, Tom Einertsen, BOD Chairman of Wadan Yards, said according to Gudok.

Wadan Group is owned by Russian state investment company FLC West, the ease pool of which is estimated at $1.5 bln. For that purpose FLC West spent EUR 290 mln to purchase two German shipyards (in Warnemünde and Wismar) and a Ukrainian shipyard in Nikolayev from Norwegian Aker Yards, TASS reports. German shipbuilders plan to develop cooperation with Ukrainian colleagues in production of icebreakers and tankers for Russian fleet.

Besides, the shipyards are eyeing construction of floating rigs for gas and oil extraction in northern regions. FLC West registered in Luxemburg is interested in investment into strategic industries including shipbuilding and cargo transportation. 50% of its capital is owned by FLC with the other half controlled by a private investment company Admiral Investment Ltd. Registered in Cyprus. Its owners are private shareholders of FLC.
