The project on Comprehensive Development of Murmansk Transport Hub (MTH) has been worked out, PortNews IAA learnt at international conference “The Future of Russian Ports” from Sergei Leus, first deputy of the Head of Murmansk regional Department of Industry and Transport.
According to Mr. Leus, the feasibility study has been carried out this year within the framework of the Federal Special-Purpose. The project is based on Private-Public Principle. The feasibility study has proved social-and-economic reasonability of the project.
According to experts, total turnover of the MTH is to make 28.5 mln t by 2010 and 52 mln t – by 2020 if it develops according to a so-called conservative scenario, which does not imply any extra investment in infrastructure. In case of MTH project implementation, oil transportation may reach 33 million tonnes by 2020. Construction of container terminals within the project framework will ensure transportation of 1.1 mln TEU by 2015.
The project implies construction of new oil, coal and container terminals and logistics center as well as reconstruction of the existing coal terminal and railways.
