Port Vanino’s cargo throughput down 12.4% to 2,3m tons
Cargo volume handled by Vanino Commercial Sea Port in January-May, 2011 fell by 12.4% from the same period of 2010, to 2,272,200 tons, the company’s press service reported. Container throughput for the period amounted to 3,335 TEUs. In May, the stevedore handled 453,000 tons of cargo.
In five recent months, exports dropped by 7.9% to 1,182,900 tons, including 676,400 tons of coal, 426,500 tons of timber cargo, 64,700 tons of non-ferrous metals. Exports of raw timber slumped by 31.9% as logging operators failed to supply to the port projected volumes, the report says.
Positive trend in the segment of imported cargoes was driven by Increased volume of petroleum coke. In January-May, Port Vanino handled 547,500 tons of inbound cargo, 6.1% more than a year earlier, including 463,400 tons of alumina and 49,300 tons of petroleum coke.
In the reporting period the volume of short sea traffic reached 77,300 tons, including 42,100 tons of coal and 20,400 tons of containerized cargo. The volume shipped by Vanino - Kholmsk ferry service was down 16.6% compared with 2010’s figures, to 464,500 tons.
In January-May, Port Vanino handled 434 vessels (225 ferries) and 24,100 rail cars.
JSC Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port Vanino) is the major operator of the port of Vanino (Khabarovsk Territory). The port is a gateway for trade flows between Russia and Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, USA and other countries of Asia Pacific Region. Vanino also handles imports shipped to the northern regions of Russia. The port operates the waterfront of about 2.5-km with three specialized cargo handling facilities. In 2010 throughput of Port Vanino Port rose to about 6 million tons (+0.2% yoy).
