In the 10-month period of 2006 stevedoring companies of the North-West region of Russia handled over 45% of total cargo turnover of Russia’s port complex, press release of the Association of Commercial Seaports reads. 158.3 million tons of cargo was transshipped in the region in the reported period (+7%, or +10.3 million tons against year-on-year result). Transshipment of dry cargo grew by 3.7% to 61.6 million tons, liquid bulk cargo – by 9% to 96.7 million tons. In absolute terms the growth totaled 2.1 million tons and 8 million tons correspondingly. The growth of cargo turnover is attributed first of all to growing volumes of liquid bulk cargo being handled in the region. Spetsmornefteport (port of Primorsk) increased transshipment of oil cargo by 7 million tons; RPK-Vysotsk-Lukoil-II – by 2.6 million tons; Specialized Seaport of Vitino - 1.98 million tons; Kaliningrad sea fishing port – by 1.8 million tons. Among companies specialized in transshipment of dry cargo Rosterminalugol OJSC of Ust-Luga is worthy of attention – its cargo turnover grew by 2.3 million tons. Positive dynamics of these ports compensated 10M06 drop in cargo turnover of such ports as Saint Petersburg and Murmansk.
